Amritsar: Diwali has a special significance for Amritsar city and the Golden Temple. It was that on the day of Diwali in 1620, sixth Sikh guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib was released by the Mughal emperor Jahangir.

Guru Hargobind Sahib directly reached Golden Temple, which was illuminated with diyas having ghee in them. Also, the whole of the holy city of Amritsar was decorated to celebrated guru’s release.

Through out the day, on the occasion of Diwali, many thousand devotees paid obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple and a dip in the sarovar.

Devotees took holy dip in the water pool of Temple before entering there.

According to the management of the Golden Temple Rs one crore has been counted here today offered by the devotees while paying obeisance.

Manager of the Golden Temple said that on Diwali in 1620, sixth Sikh guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib was released by the Mughal emperor Jahangir from the Gwalior fort alongwith the 52 other kings.

After being released, Hargobind Sahib directly reached Golden Temple, whereupon people lighted earthen lamps with desi ghee. The entire holy city was illuminated and tastefully decorated on the release of Guru.
